Broadly, there are three overall tasks in psychotherapy:
1. Get a specific, shared picture of your symptoms
2. Get an understanding of your internal habits and reflexes
3. Experiment with and practice making contact with the authentic underlying emotions
We can achieve this together in session through mindful and direct interactions.
For a more technical description of my treatment philosophy, please see The Triangle of Pain reflection.
If you're looking for laid-back, open-ended weekly conversations, or if you are seeking advice about what you "should do" in different life situations, I will not be the right therapist for you.
Perhaps you've heard of so-called big "T" trauma and little "t" trauma? It doesn't matter whether you've survived terrible life events of great intensity, or smaller difficulties throwing you off balance, trauma is a normal part of life. Trauma is simply anything and everything that you experienced in the past and which still impacts you negatively today. Whether it's big "T" or small "t", it's an emotional reflex that we can work on together.

Good therapy is not easy. However, that does not mean it needs to be a long-term commitment, obligation, or project. I encourage all my clients to get the most out of each session as we plan our way forward and track our progress.
